From twenty studies covering different coastal ecosystems, this tool focuses on the
valuation of un-priced goods and services as applied to different types of coastal
ecosystems such as coral reefs, fisheries, and intertidal zones as well as specific
management interventions such as marine reserves. Non-market values have been derived
either by constructing hypothetical markets, conducting choice experiments, or by
observing consumer spending behavior especially in relation to travel expenses.
