Step by step tool to making your own poster

1. Make a selection of the commercially important fishes of the area you wish to cover.
(The example is from the Philippines)

2. Optionally use your own photographs or,
look them up in FisBase Species summary pages.
(See for example Plectropomus leopardus.)

3. If you use photographs from FishBase, write or email to obtain the photographers permission to use their photograph.
(For Plectropomus leopardus it's J.Randall).

4. Use the best estimate of mean size at maturity for the species in your area. You may search FishBase (www.fishbase.org) to get information on size at maturity or to compare your estimate of maturity with other estimates. The Lm vs Linf graph in the maturity table of FishBase would be a useful and simple way of making a comparison. (Example for Plectropomus leopardus.)

5. If no estimates of maturity are available, you may estimate the size at maturity based on maximum size (or growth parameters) by using the life-history tool available from the tools section on the species-summary page of FishBase. On the life-history page, type in the maximum length of the species reported for your area in recent years, then click on the corresponding recalculate button to obtain the size at maturity.
(Example from Plectropomus leopardus.)

6. Resize the photograph to actual maturity size, using optional graphic software.

7. Place the photographs on the provided layout background (downloadable above) and apply your own design and content to the poster.

8. Demonstrate your final poster.
